Behind Bloom

Each year Manchester School of Art invited alumni to develop the concept and visuals for the degree show. In 2025 Instruct were given the opportunity to revisit the art school and develop the show’s identity. With three of our team being Manchester School of Art alumni, we worked on this collectively to unite different creative styles and skills.

BLOOM celebrates growth, collaboration and the cross-pollination of ideas across our creative community. It’s all about things coming to life – a time of development and the process of achieving this.

Working separately and collaboratively we developed a variety of bloom visual assets, ranging from simple to complex and a variety of forms and styles. The outcome is a series of cross-pollinated assets at the intersection of different methods and mediums.

This exploration resulted in experiments in iconography, typography, image making and animation running throughout the show branding and the dressing of exhibition spaces throughout the School.

“We were delighted to welcome Laura, Ellie and Josh back to inject all their personality and experiences since graduation into coming up with a show identity. It’s a vibrant show identity featuring retro-inspired floral graphics doused in acid green.”

Alongside marketing and social media we developed operational items for the show including signage, low-fi wayfinding solutions, map guides and certificates for prize winners.

We extended the brand to the 2025 MA show, developing a variation on the colour palette and a new BLOOM wordmark.
