In 2017 we were commissioned to design the identity, opening titles and weekly graphics for Frankie Boyle’s new BBC programme New World Order. The look and feel needed to be bold and eye-catching whilst still feeling warm and inviting. We developed a design system based on flags, giving Frankie’s New World Order it’s own national (international?) identity and developing a system of colours, shapes and symbols we could use to illustrate the “motions” put forward in each episode.

We have now worked on four series of the programme and multiple specials, honing the identity and finding new ways to talk about the day’s biggest issues.

Series 4 presented some new design challenges as the show was produced during the Covid 19 pandemic. A new round table format to allow the guests to social distance gave us the opportunity to design a branded NWO table. There was even a branded mask for cast and crew.

We have adapted the brand to give special episodes their own look and feel, like glitching out the brand each series for Unseen and Best Bits. We also create a whole new set of flags for each year’s End of Year special, often riffing on the biggest news stories of the year and hiding references in the short opening titles.
